From the openig tip, it was clear that the Tom Bean squad would not be denied this win. They played excellent defense the entire game and limited the Rams to 23 total points. The Tomcats led the entire game and when the final buzzer sounded, the score was 37-23 in favor of Tom Bean. This win gave the Tomcats the District Title and vengence from the only loss of the season. Offensively, the Tomcats were led by Payton Jones with 17 points, Noah White with 5 points, and Carter Khoury with 5 points. Defensively, it was a total team effort led by Payton Jones, who provided lockdown defense against the Ram's best offensive weapon. As the team's coach, I could not be more proud of the way they performed in the biggest game of the season. It was a pleasure to work with such a great group of athletes this year. The boys showed not only tremendous athleticism, but also great poise and character throughout the season. The Tomcats finished the season with a 9-1 record and a District Championship. Please join me in congratulating this group of students on their great achievement. Thank you for your support and GO TOMCATS! -Coach Chapman
A courageous group of 8th grade boys
finished their season with a
heartbreaking 5-point loss to the
S&S Rams, here Monday night. Though
the game was a back-and-forth battle
for most of the night, exhaustion
and poor shot selection finally took
its toll on the Tomcats.
Offensively, Daniel Jackson put in 25 points, while Clayton Stephens put in another 3. The real story of the evening though was the team's defensive effort. Clayton Stephens played a very gutsy game, blocking shots in the paint, banging away for tough rebounds, diving after loose balls, and pressing the Ram players into turnovers. Lane Williams and Brady Kannady provided rebounding help as well, and Gary Purdue scrapped his way to multiple defensive steals. Though the smallest man on the team, Purdue set screen after screen all night, refusing to back down from the physical challenge of the larger players he was facing. This little group of boys showed once again what they were made of when their mettle was tested. Though they have had to face every game over the last month with only 5 players, these boys continue to fight with all they have. I have been VERY proud of the character, resolve, and gritty determination that they have shown day-after-day. Though the tallest player on the team measures less than 5'10", every one of these boys have refused to be intimidated by the larger players that they faced. Their hard work and dedication throughout the season has been admirable, and I have been very pleased with the effort that they have put forth. Thank you very much for all your support this season. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with this fine group of boys. -Coach "Sasquatch" Wilson Feb 2, 2012 8th Boys Basketball The Tomcats jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers by Daniel Jackson and Clayton Stephens. However, early foul trouble for big man Brady Kannady forced the boys to play a little softer on the defensive side as well as in their rebounding efforts. Still, the 5 ironman Tomcats scratched and clawed to stay in the game all the way down the stretch. Daniel Jackson exploded on the offensive side of the ball, putting up 24 total points on the night; his best offensive showing to date. Clayton Stephens added 9 of his own, including a 3-pointer early on. Brady Kannady gave a great effort rebounding on both sides of the ball. Lane Williams quietly did all the little things that so often go unnoticed, setting good picks, making good passes, and rebounding. Gary Purdue played full-tilt all night, which has become his trademark style of play. With no subs and no rest, the Tigers were able to mount an offensive attack that outraced and outlasted the 5-man Tomcat squad. The boys play again in their season finale against S&S here tonight (Monday, the 6th). Thanks again for your continued support. -Coach Wilson Feb 2, 2012 8th Girls Basketball The 8th graders wrapped up their season last night with a spectacular win here at home against Highway 11 rival Whitewright. The Ladycats beat the the Lady Tigers by a score of 26-8. Leading scorers on the night were Ramie Byers 10 points and Haley Dodson-Ford 8. Also Macey Stephens and Izabella Zuniga did a good job on the boards, while Kennedy Balzen and Randi Cole's pressure defense proved to be too much for Whitewright's guards leading to several steals and turnovers. Danielle Dean and Tessa Williams came in off the bench and played strong for their team when 2 starters got in foul trouble early. These girls have worked hard every day and spent alot of time on offensive and defensive skills and fundamentals. They have also learned several defenses, presses, and offensive plays that will help them with preparation for high school basketball next year. Thank you for your support. We would like to invite you to come out and watch these ladies next year as they begin competing at the high school level. Roberta Jones Tom Bean Girls Athletics Feb 2, 2012 7th Boys Basketball The 7th Grade "B" Team played against a tough opponent but managed to keep their composure throughout the entire game. The Tomcats never stopped giving maximum effort even though the score was seemingly out of reach. Offensively, the Tomcats were led by Gervie stone, Ethan Ulmer, and Tyler Hunt. Defensively, Taylor Detzel and Connor Hall played extremely well. The 7th Grade "A" Team came into last nights game playing extremely well as a team, and looked to improve upon their 5 game winning streak. In the 1st half, the Tomcats moved the ball extremely well and jumped out to a 15-9 lead at half-time. The 2nd half proved to be tough sledding for Tom Bean however, as Whitewright got off to a great start. Although the Tomcats never lost the lead, Whitewright managed to tie the game at one point in the 4th quarter. With just over a minute left to play, the Tomcats took the lead again and never looked back. The final score was 28-25, in favor of your Tom Bean Tomcats. Offensive standouts for the Tomcats were Noah White with 10 points and Jacob Miller with 8 points. Defensively, the Tomcats were led by Garrett Gomez and Ben Peeples who both played outstanding. We encourage you to come and support the Tomcats at home next Monday against S&S, as they will be competing for the District Championship beginning at 4:30. Thank you for your continued support and GO TOMCATS!
The 8th grade Tomcats fell to an overpowering
Bells team here Thursday night, 43-15. The 6-3
and 6-2 Panther posts proved to be too much for
the Tomcat squad, who was forced to play ironman
basketball with only 5 players on the roster.
Clayton Stephens led all Tomcat scorers and rebounders on the night, putting in 8 points to go along with his double-digit rebounding effort. Brady Kannaday also had a break-out night, putting in two buckets off of tough backside rebounding work, and playing hard-nosed defense against two much bigger opponents. Daniel Jackson also had 3 points on the night to round out the Tomcat scoring. With no one on the bench to sub in, the 5 ironman Tomcats had to simply play four entire quarters on sheer guts. Gary Purdue and Lane Williams each showed that they could play a vital role; Purdue with his hustle and gritty play style, and Williams with his much more pronounced physical play. Gary added steals and assists to the Tomcat effort, while Williams added a blocked shot and rebounding help. The boys will be back in action again next Thursday night, when they will face Whitewright on the road. We thank you for your continued support. -Coach Wilson Jan 26, 2012 7th Boys Basketball Jan 19, 2012 7th Boys Basketball

The 8th grade boys basketball team lost to Pottsboro's
squad in a 47-20 contest Thursday evening at Pottsborro.
The loss moves their overall record to 1-4 on the
season.
Offensively, Daniel Jackson led all scorers with 13 total points on the night, including a 3 pointer just before the half-time break. Clayton Stephens had 4 points, Austin Wilson had 2, and Brady Kannady added a free throw to round out the scoring for the Tomcats. The boys seemed to struggle a bit in their first game back from the 2-week Christmas lay-off. Mental mistakes and tempermental decisions cost the team a few good scoring opportunities in the final quarter. Nevertheless, they will have a chance to rectify that when they play a very good Gunter team, here at Tom Bean, next Thursday. Thank you for your continued support. -Coach Wilson Jan 5, 2012 7th Boys Basketball

The Tomcats ultimately came up short but showed great character in the loss and continued to play hard throughout the contest. The 7th Grade "A" Team played against a previously undefeated Pottsboro team in what was the most exciting game of the season to date. Dec 12, 2011 8th Boys Basketball
The 8th grade boys basketball team lost to a very numerous and talented Callisburg team last night, 60-16. The boys played hard and kept the ballgame tight, until finally the 5-at-a-time substituting and full-court man defense exhausted the small 7-man Tomcat squad. The game was hotly contested early, going scoreless for the first 4 minutes and closing out the first quarter at 10-6. The first quarter and halftime scores reflected the extreme effort and toughness the boys played with last night. Daniel Jackson again played well, with a 12 point game last night. He also brought the ball down the court, continually breaking the full-court press with smart dribbling and ball handling skills. Clayton Stephens also refused to be intimidated, scoring a bucket of his own and playing tough denial defense against much bigger players all night. Jacob Marshall gave the team some offensive help as well, when he took a nimble steal the length of the court for a layup. Though our small squad was eventually overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and talent of the Callisburg team, I was very proud of the effort and character that they showed throughout the game. The boys never lost heart and continued to give all they had through the entirety of the contest. The 8th grade boys won't play again until January 5th, when they will face a very good Pottsboro team at Pottsborro. -Coach Wilson |
