The Tom Bean Middle School Band program is dedicated to excellence in music education. It is the goal of the District, School, Principal, and Band Directors to guide the music students through an enriching and rewarding experience that will aide in their overall education.
Students begin their education in instrumental performance in the 6th grade. At this level, the students are split into like-instrument classes giving them the advantage of being in smaller groups to learn the basics of music.
In learning the basics of music; notes, rhythms, counting and playing as a group, the students will be using concepts taken from mathematics, reading, and teamwork. After only 14 weeks, the beginning students perform in their first Christmas concert. In the spring, the Beginning Band will compete at the Sandy Lake Band and Orchestra Contest. In past years, the Beginning Band has brought home numerous awards and trophies and always look forward to going back.
Once the students have moved past the fundamentals of their instruments they are asked to join the Advanced Band consisting of musicians in the 7th and 8th grade.
Every day during 7th period the Advanced Band works on much more difficult music than that at the beginning level. For the Fall Football season, the Advanced Band works to provide the most exciting part of the pep-rallies; the music! After football season has come and gone, the Adv Band prepares for the annual Christmas Concert. For the spring, the Band works on more challenging music in preparation for UIL contest, Solo & Ensemble Contest, and the Spring concert. The Advanced Band also nominates and votes on officers to help with some of the details that come with a successful band program.
We hope to see you all at some of these performances!
Musically yours,
Flint D Weed
