I grew up in Great Bend, Kansas, and I graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1981. After marrying and taking time to raise children I completed the Alternative Certification Program at Texas A & M – Commerce. I have worked at Tom Bean Middle School since 2006. I have lived in Sherman since 1985. I have two daughters and one grandson. I enjoy traveling, reading, walking, and spending time with my family. I believe that children will learn when they feel safe and when they feel valued. A classroom where the teacher establishes the tone and does not allow negative comments is setting the stage to nurture and grow a child’s natural curiosity and imagination. Students can feel valued even when they are struggling. Finding something positive and encouraging to say can be the stimulus needed to continue trying until success is achieved. My students know that I genuinely care about them. They know I will never give up on them and that I will find the time to help them when they are frustrated. I feel very fortunate to be working with children. They are as much a part of my life as I am of theirs, and it is not cliché for me when I say I believe I am touching the future. |
