Tom Bean Middle School “makes the grade” in Texas Monthly’s list of best public schools!
The Tom Bean Independent School District has plenty to cheer about this holiday season.
Tom Bean Middle School has been named as one of the best public schools in Texas, according to the December 2007 issue of Texas Monthly magazine. Only 859 from approximately 8,000 Texas schools were selected.
According to Texas Monthly, this is the fourth time the magazine has published a list of the top public schools in Texas, and the second year in a row that it has presented the higher-performing schools ranked according to the number of subjects (such as reading, writing, math, science, and social studies) in which they excel. The National Center for Educational Accountability analyzed student test results for the past three years as the basis to create this year’s higher-performing schools list.
The schools identified by NCEA exhibited outstanding performance in comparison to similar schools across multiple grades and years. As the foundation of NCEA’s Best Practice research, the behaviors of higher-performing schools are compared with those of average-performing schools in order to determine the unique practices of the most successful campuses. For example, students at Tom Bean Middle School performed better on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) Writing test than did their counterparts at other schools around the state.
